Molchanovs · Wave 2
Go deeper, calmer and more efficiently, with new technique and deeper equalisation.
Go deeper
Wave 2 is the intermediate Molchanovs certification. You refine everything from Wave 1 and add the techniques that unlock real depth, over three to four days on the line.
Molchanovs Wave 2 is where freediving opens up. You deepen your understanding of physiology and safety, sharpen your relaxation and finning, and add the skills that make greater depth possible: free fall, the first stage of deeper equalisation, and more efficient movement.
All prices in IDR · Marine Park fee of IDR 100,000 applies to reef sessions.
What is Wave 2?
Molchanovs Wave 2 is where freediving opens up. You deepen your understanding of physiology and safety, sharpen your relaxation and finning, and add the skills that make greater depth possible: free fall, the first stage of deeper equalisation, and more efficient movement.
You will train longer breath-holds and deeper dives, learning to stay calm and controlled well past the point where beginners turn back.

Theory, pool and deeper open water over three to four days.

Before the course, get your digital kit and start the digital theory. In class: deeper physiology, safety and dive planning, plus the theory behind deeper equalisation and free fall.
Longer static and dynamic apnea, refined technique and advanced rescue skills.
A boat dive in the blue, not the reef: free fall on the line, deeper equalisation, your first no-fins dive and progressively deeper dives with close coaching.
Message the freediving crew on WhatsApp to book your Molchanovs Wave 2 course.
Everything you need is included, so you can focus on the diving.

Why Gili Air
Gili Air's warm, clear water and easy access to depth make it ideal for deeper training. The line is a short boat ride away, so you spend your energy diving, not travelling.
Calm conditions and small classes let you focus on the fine technique that deeper freediving demands.

Ocean-obsessed, and patient with it.
Real, personalised attention at every step.
Warm, calm, clear water on your doorstep.
Safe and supportive: become a family member.
A Molchanovs Wave 1 certification, or an equivalent freediving certification from another agency. Bring your card, and be comfortable diving to your current certified depth.
Free fall, the first stage of deeper equalisation, refined finning and relaxation, your first no-fins dive, and deeper dive planning and safety.
Wave 2 takes you well beyond your Wave 1 depth, up to 30 metres, at a pace that stays calm and controlled.
Three to four days, depending on conditions and how quickly the new techniques come together.
On a line in the blue rather than over the reef, a short boat ride from the centre. The sites here are five to fifteen minutes out, so you spend your energy diving rather than travelling.
Very. It is the usual ceiling, and it is why deeper equalisation is the centrepiece of Wave 2. If you reach the point where the classic Frenzel runs out of air to work with, mouthfill is the next step, and we teach it on a dedicated Mouthfill Mastery day.
Deep training is built around recovery rather than volume, so expect surface intervals and rest between dives and a sensible number of dives per session. Your instructor sets the rhythm from what they see on the line, and there is no benefit in stacking deep dives on top of a tired body.
We recommend travel insurance that covers freediving. Worth knowing whatever you dive on: there is no hyperbaric chamber on the Gili Islands, the nearest are in Mataram on Lombok and in Bali, and DAN is the usual choice of cover here.
Freediving and scuba are separate disciplines and both are available here, but tell us at booking so we can plan the order of your days. For the journey home the scuba rule applies: at least 18 hours between your last scuba dive and a flight, 12 hours after a single no-decompression dive, and 24 hours before a flight or the Mount Rinjani trek.
Our Mouthfill Mastery day and one-to-one coaching sessions are built to push your depth further after Wave 2, and a Deep Week gives you seven days of consistent line time with the same coach.
