SSI Advanced Adventurer
Five adventure dives, deeper reefs to 30m, and the skills to dive them well.
Beyond the basics
Advanced Adventurer is about experience. You try five kinds of diving with an instructor beside you, unlock 30m and discover the styles you love.
Rather than a single subject, Advanced Adventurer samples five types of diving. Two are set, Deep and Navigation, and you choose the other three to match the conditions and your curiosity.
All prices in IDR · Marine Park fee of IDR 100,000 not included.
What is Advanced Adventurer?
Rather than a single subject, Advanced Adventurer samples five types of diving. Two are set, Deep and Navigation, and you choose the other three to match the conditions and your curiosity.
Each adventure dive is a real dive with a purpose, guided by an instructor. You come out certified to 30m and with a clear idea of which specialties are worth taking further.

Five dives across two days, two of them fixed and three you choose.

Each of your five adventures has its own short section in the SSI app, so you arrive at the boat knowing what the dive is for. There is no final exam and no classroom day, just enough reading to dive each one properly.
Deep takes you to a maximum of 30 m and opens up the sites that sit out of reach on an Open Water card, the shipwreck, Secret Reef, Simon's Reef and Deep Turbo. You learn gas planning, how colour and pressure behave down there, and how to watch your no-decompression limit. Navigation is compass work plus natural references, so a reef never turns you around again.
Pick three more from Night, Nitrox, Drift, Wreck, Perfect Buoyancy, Fish ID and Photography, matched to the conditions and to what you want to get better at. Night is the one people talk about at dinner, mandarin fish in the harbour and Hans Reef after dark. Nitrox is the one most liveaboards ask for later.
Three adventure dives on the first day and two on the second, with surface intervals back at the centre. If you would rather spread the five dives over three days to fit around the rest of your island plans, tell us and we will plan it that way.
Tell us when you are on the island and we will plan your five adventure dives.
Everything you need is included, so you can focus on the diving.

Course requirements
Advanced Adventurer builds on your first certification. To join you need to:
Why Gili Air
Gili Air's dive sites are made for this course. The Shipwreck and Simon's Reef drop into the 30m range, gentle drifts let you practise navigation, and the harbour hides critters worth a whole dive of their own.
Warm water around 28 to 30 degrees and generous visibility mean you spend your dives learning, not battling conditions.

Four students per instructor at most, so you are never a number in a crowd.
Instructors who grew up diving these reefs and know every site by heart.
Study online at your own pace, then spend your water time actually diving, not sat in a classroom.
Clear prices and quality rental gear, with no hidden extras beyond the Marine Park fee.
No. You can start Advanced Adventurer straight after Open Water. It is designed to build your experience with a pro beside you.
Deep and Navigation are the two core dives. You choose three more from Perfect Buoyancy, Night, Nitrox, Drift, Wreck, Fish ID and Photography.
To a maximum of 30m, on sites like the Shipwreck, Shark Point or Simon's Reef.
There is a short knowledge review for each adventure, but no final exam. It is about diving, not studying.
Two days for the five dives, sometimes spread over three to fit around your other plans.
Yes, but start with a refresher. If it has been more than about 12 months, a half day of pool time and an easy first dive puts your skills and your buoyancy back where they were before you go looking for 30 m. It is a short session and it makes the whole course better.
It is the elective we push hardest for divers who plan to keep diving. Enriched air gives you longer bottom times on the deeper Gili sites, and it is the certification most liveaboards ask to see. You learn to analyse your own tank, work out the maximum operating depth and set your computer for the mix. There is a supplement for the gas.
Yes, the SSI medical questionnaire, the same one you filled in for Open Water. Any yes answer needs a physician's approval to dive before you get in the water. If anything has changed in your health since your last course, tell us before the deep dive rather than after it.
Five dives across two days counts as repetitive multi-day diving, so allow at least 18 hours before a flight, and a full 24 hours before any flight or the Mount Rinjani trek, which takes you to altitude the same way a plane does. Plan the course early in your trip rather than the day before you leave.
There is no hyperbaric chamber on the Gili Islands. The nearest is in Mataram on Lombok, with others in Bali, reached by speedboat and road. It is a well-travelled route, and this is why we recommend dive insurance that covers chamber treatment and evacuation, DAN being the common choice. It matters more once you are diving to 30 m, and most ordinary travel policies exclude scuba entirely.
The course includes your instructor, the SSI digital section for each adventure, all your equipment, five guided adventure dives and your certification fee and digital logbook. Paid separately: the Gili Matra Marine Park fee of IDR 100,000, a one-off valid around 30 days and paid in cash to the park, the optional IDR 50,000 Gili Eco Trust donation, the nitrox supplement if you choose that elective, and any computer or camera rental.
